A historic success for Nepal

Nepali national football team has reached the final of the SAAF Championship for the first time in its history. Nepal secured a place in the final after a 1-1 draw with Bangladesh in the final league match of the ongoing tournament in Maldives on Wednesday.

Nepal has secured a place in the final by adding 7 points in 4 games. In the first match, Nepal defeated Maldives 1-0. In the second match, Nepal defeated Sri Lanka. Despite losing 1-0 to India in the third match, Nepal made it to the final by drawing a favorable result in the final match.

Nepal had reached the semi-finals five times before and failed to reach the final. The last time Nepal lost to Maldives 3-0 in 2018 was in the semifinals. Before that, Afghanistan had defeated Nepal in the semi-finals in 2013 and 2011.

Similarly, the coach of the Nepali national football team Abdullah Almutairi will resign after the final of the SAAF Championship 2021. Speaking at a press conference after the final game of the league stage on Wednesday, Almutairi announced his resignation as Nepal’s coach. Although he resigned a month ago, he said that his resignation will be implemented after the competition is over as soon as Nepal reaches the final. He has said that he will not return to Nepal.
