Oli’s supporters have taken to the streets in protest after the Supreme Court annulled the dissolution of the House of Representatives. Along with the decision of the Supreme Court, the Oli government has also collapsed. With the end of the Oli government, the Supreme Court has ordered the appointment of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba as the Prime Minister.
After the Supreme Court’s decision, various fraternal organizations and leaders of the CPN-UML have started agitation in support of Prime Minister Oli. The protesters have also chanted slogans against Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher. The protesters have gone to the top and chanted slogans. Protesters in different parts of the country have even burnt idols in the name of Cholendra Shamsher. According to him, they have said that they will not support Deuba, who has come to claim the PM’s post from various settings. The agitators also said that the decision was taken through various scams inside the Supreme Court. He also said that the Supreme Court has no right to elect a prime minister.
The Supreme Court has also issued an order to the CPN-UML not to issue any kind of party whip. Prime Minister Oli had taken action against Madhav Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal’s party leaders. Under which, it was also decided to suspend Nepal and Khanal from the party. But discussions are underway between Oli and Nepal for party unity.
Prime Minister Oli had claimed for the post of Prime Minister in accordance with Article 76 (5) of the Constitution. The Supreme Court has removed Oli’s claim as unconstitutional. The decision of the Supreme Court has come in favor of Deuba, the Congress leader who came to claim the PM post with a majority. Deuba had filed a writ petition in the court demanding the reconstitution of the House of Representatives with the signatures of 146 parliamentarians. The Supreme Court had received 26 writ petitions seeking reconstitution of the House of Representatives and four writ petitions seeking KP Oli to be made the Prime Minister. The hearing of the writ petitions started on May 26 and ended on July 7.
The Supreme Court had on Monday afternoon decided to dismiss the dissolution of the House of Representatives. Immediately after this, the Supreme Court has issued an ultimate order to appoint Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba as the Prime Minister within 24 hours. With the Supreme Court’s directive, President Vidyadevi Bhandari will have to appoint Congress leader Deuba as the prime minister.
