While the CPN-UML is facing division, the second tier leaders are holding a meeting to maintain unity. They are having frequent meetings. While the main leaders of the first tier of the CPN-UML are moving towards division, some leaders of the second tier are still engaged in the campaign to preserve unity.
Oli and second tier leaders of the Nepali side are participating in the discussion. While UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and another senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal have returned to the two sides, the second tier leaders have continued their efforts to preserve unity.
In the meantime, discussions have been held between them at Yak & Yati Hotel till late Monday night. Leader of Madhav Nepal’s party Surendra Pandey has confirmed that the meeting was held between the second tier leaders of the two parties in an effort to maintain unity in the party.
He informed that a meeting was held between some second tier leaders at Yak & Yeti. He said that they would continue their efforts till the end to preserve the party unity. Subash Nemwang, Bishnu Poudel and Pradip Gyawali from Oli’s side and Ghanshyam Bhusal, Yogesh Bhattarai and Gokarna Bista from Nepal’s side were present at the meeting on Monday night.
The UML Standing Committee meeting on Tuesday did not decide to take action against the 12 lawmakers of Madhav Nepal’s party who had asked for clarification as they were continuing their efforts for unity. Earlier, key leaders including Madhav Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal were expelled from the party. Tuesday’s meeting was expected to take action against them.
Oli is planning to keep them in UML and give them responsibility. According to a leader of the Oli faction, the leaders who participated in the meeting on Monday night were asked, “Can you cross Madhav Nepal and stay in the UML?” This means that Oli has come to the conclusion that Madhav Nepal, Jhala Nath Khanal and Bhim Rawal are no longer in the UML or that they cannot be retained.
