Manoj Pandey, a businessman, has been detained on suspicion of rape in an eight-year-old event. A statute of limitations is a legislation that specifies the maximum length of time that parties to a dispute have from the date of an alleged civil or criminal offense to file a lawsuit. However, the amount of time a victim has to commence legal action against the alleged wrongdoer varies depending on the jurisdiction and the nature of the offense. In rape cases in Nepal, a plaintiff can only submit a complaint within one year after the event, according to section 229(2) of the National Penal (Code) Act.

According to a police source, he was arrested on Saturday in Kathmandu’s Swayambhu. Manoj Pandey was arrested after the Nepal Police Headquarters formed a squad to investigate the issue.

The story gained attention after the survivor posted it on her TikTok account on Wednesday. The House of Representatives had also urged the administration to examine the matter involving a beauty pageant organizer earlier on Friday afternoon.

Activists and members of the public have also started a campaign to pressure the government into conducting a thorough investigation and taking punishment against the perpetrator.

Manoj Pandey, a former beauty pageant organizer, has been arrested in relation to an eight-year-old case in which the victim, a 16-year-old aspiring model, was reportedly drugged and raped.

Following the speaker’s instructions, Nepal Police Headquarters formed a probe team led by Senior Superintendent of Police Basanta Bahadur Kunwar to look into the situation and “explore means to keep the offender behind bars if proved guilty.”

Sushmita had alleged in a series of videos posted on her social media account on May 18 that she was drugged and raped by ‘an abuser’ (Pandey) when she was 16 years old in 2014. She claims Pandey lured her to a hotel under the guise of inviting her to a beauty contest triumph celebration.

There were no guests at the gathering. Sushmita said in the video that she was given a ‘welcome drink’ of tainted lemonade. Pandey then enticed the girl into a hotel room under the guise of allowing her to rest, despite her desire to be permitted to return home. In a second video, Sushmita described her condition, saying, “I went there.

A great number of people, particularly teenagers, have been enraged by twenty short movies that have gone viral on the internet. A series of protests were held outside the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, calling for a fair inquiry and action against the perpetrator. Many celebrities took to social media to express their support for Sushmita at a meeting of the House of Representatives. Sushmita broke down in tears in the following video, explaining that she was unable to submit a complaint against the suspected rapists since the statutory period for reporting rape in Nepal is one year.
