Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has sent a letter of explanation to 11 leaders of his party. He said
that while taking the vote of confidence, he was asked to explain why the vote was given to the
opposition party.
While the Prime Minister was taking the vote of confidence on April 10, party leaders including
Madhav Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal came out in support of the opposition. With the decision
of the Prime Minister to dismiss the action taken by the party, Madhav Nepal Party again stood
in favor of Prime Minister Oli. Even as Oli was claiming the PM’s job for the second time, the
Nepali side stood by other parties as before. After leaders within his own party came out in
support of the opposition, Oli wrote a letter asking for an explanation. The Prime Minister has
asked Madhav Nepal, Jhala Nath Khanal and Bhim Rawal for clarification on the direct side and
nine other dancers on the proportional side. Twenty-six Nepali lawmakers backed opposition
leader Sher Bahadur Deuba. But the prime minister has sent explanatory letters to only 11
lawmakers. Oli is ready to expel them from the party if they do not get a satisfactory answer in
the letter of explanation.
According to UML party office secretary Sher Bahadur Tamang, Oli has sent a letter of
explanation to three lawmakers within 24 hours. In the letter of explanation, Oli questioned why
he violated the party’s whip during the vote of confidence. Secretary Tamang also questioned
why he supported the opposition during the formation of the new government. The letter also
included a question as to why the party’s whip was violated in the Bagmati MP’s hearing.
At the same time, there are signs that the UML has split. In this context, UML leader Yogesh
Bhattarai has said that the politics of change of action will not reach the destination. Bhattarai
made the remarks after the UML took action against leaders including Madhav Nepal. He also
called on the leaders to look at their past and be patient. He had not signed the letter to make
Congress leader Deuba the prime minister.
The Madhav faction is preparing to open a new party. It is clear that Chairman Oli wanted to
make it look like he was leaving the party. Leader of the Nepali side Yuvaraj Gyawali has said
that it is not possible to sit on the same party with Oli. He says there is no possibility of
surrendering to Oli and no possibility of joining another party. Prime Minister Oli has termed it
as an attempt to push him out of the party. A new political party has been registered in the
Election Commission under the leadership of CPN-Nepal leader Jeevan Jeevan Rai. The
Communist Party of Nepal has registered under the leadership of Rai. The election symbol of
this party, which was registered on April 22, has been demanded.
