Maoist center is legal, petition is illegal

UCPN (M) Central Committee Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has a big problem with Prachanda. After the Election Commission decided to uphold the legitimacy of the Prachanda-led CPN (Maoist Center), he posed a major threat. Former UCPN (M) leaders who joined the UML had filed a petition in the Election Commission demanding the dissolution of the UCPN (M).

But the Election Commission has declared their demand illegal. The Election Commission (EC) has rejected the petition filed by UML leader Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and Prabhu Sahal.

Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Prabhu Sah, Lekhraj Bhatt and Gauri Shankar Chaudhary, who left the UCPN (Maoist) and joined the CPN-UML, had demanded the dismissal of the party saying that the party had become illegal. He also argued that the party’s decision to snatch his parliamentary seat was illegal.

A joint meeting of Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya and Commissioners Sagun Samsher Jabra, Janaki Kumari Tuladhar, Ram Prasad Bhandari and Ishwori Prasad Poudyal on Sunday decided that the Prachanda-led Maoist center was legitimate.
