International aid is now flowing in to support overwhelmed hospitals in India. The country has been hit hard by a new variant. Neighbouring Nepal is also struggling to contain an explosion in cases. Vaccines are in short supply – and nearly half those tested are found to be positive. It’s feared the situation may be as bad, if not worse, than in India. India is still registering record daily COVID-19 deaths and infections. Officials have reported more than 400,000 new cases in the last day. Almost 4,000 people died. Mass gatherings at recent religious and political rallies have also been blamed for spreading the virus.
In the last 24 hours, an additional 9,196 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Nepal, according to the Ministry of Health and Population. This is the highest daily increase ever confirmed.
According to the ministry, another 50 people died due to COVID-19 during the period. A total of 3,579 people have died so far.During this period, 2,905 people have been infected. The highest number of infected people is being found in Kathmandu Valley. A large number of infections have also been confirmed in Rupandehi.
As of Friday afternoon, there were 78,629 confirmed active infections across the country, according to government figures. Of them, 5,860 are living in institutional isolation and the rest are living at home, according to the ministry.Of those hospitalized, 728 are being treated in the ICU and 231 in the ventilator. At present, the same number of infected people have been found by testing with antigen method including PCR method.
A total of 20,482 people tested positive for the virus. According to the ministry, 3,089 people in Kathmandu district, 643 people in Lalitpur district and 374 people in Bhaktapur district were infected on Friday.
