Traditional Nepali Ropai Gorkha Village 2022

This is the month of Jhan Asar. Due to timely rains, favorable weather and corona virus have been concentrated in rural areas, which has had a positive impact on paddy planting. Similarly, the council has been organizing Asare Ropai Mahotsav since 2061 BS with the main objective of conserving arable land, commercializing agriculture, motivating farmers towards their profession and promoting tourism in Pokhara through traditional agricultural system.

Chairman of Pokhara Tourism Council Gopi Bhattarai informed that the festival has been continued to convey the message that Nepal is suitable for travel in all seasons. He said that the festival would also be fruitful in informing the new generation living in the city about the farming system. The festival included saune competition, Asare song and planting competition among mother groups, and fishing competition in the mud. Similarly, tug-of-war competitions and honors for the best farmers and social workers and various cultural programs were held.

About 200 foreign tourists are participating in the festival, said festival coordinator and vice-chairman of the council Pom Narayan Shrestha. With increasing plotting eroding farmland, the festival seemed to become a place of entertainment for city dwellers instead of addressing farmers’ problems. Most of the people seemed to be busy taking selfies by making ticks in the mud. Farmers were constantly working in the nearby fields while enjoying the festival. They were complaining that there was a problem in farming as they did not get fertilizer seeds on time.
