Theft of electricity by hooking and bypass has increased with the onset of summer. Especially in Province Two and Bagmati Province, the leakage has increased by 1 percent.

According to the Electricity Authority, leakage has increased in Bara, Parsa, Saptari and Sarlahi under Janakpur Distribution Center. In State 2, the leakage was 15 percent a year ago. Now it has increased to 16 percent. Similarly, leakage in Bagmati has increased from 7 percent to 8 percent. Leakage has increased in the state, especially in Bhaktapur and Lalitpur.

Despite knowing that theft has increased, NEA has not taken effective steps. He has used the Corona epidemic as an excuse to prevent leakage. However, NEA suffers a loss ,the leakage of NEA was 10.28 percent. It has increased to 11.28 percent in mid-January. The target was to reduce the leakage to 8.5 percent.

Leakage increases even when the transmission line and transformer are not of good quality. NEA is currently working on replacing the transmission line and transfer. Experts say that speeding up the connection of smart meters will help in leakage prevention.
